April showers bring May (and June) flowers.....and vegetables. My #1 goal for the summer is to can tomatoes--hopefully from my garden. In this pursuit, we have planted 13 tomato plants of 3 varieties. Bring on the tomatoes I say! (I am happy to report that 7 tomatoes have already been spotted). We also planted 5 pepper plants, 1 cucumber plant, and 2 basil plants. Not too much variety overall in the vegetable department--but we have plans to expand next year.
As crazy as it sounds, doing my dishes and looking out my window to these flower boxes---somehow makes doing dishes a bit easier (usually).

The first year we were here in Georgia we planted Petunias. Within a week they were all gone and the bunny we thought was so cute became our enemy. This year, we dare that bunny to get to these Petunias.
I love beginning my day by checking on our garden. Each morning Abigail and I go outside and take a look to see what has been happening while we were sleeping. Abigail loves to help water the vegetables, flower pots, and hanging baskets.
p.s. Ignore the dead grass. It is purposely dry, dead, and ugly--sod coming soon with pictures to follow.

Aren't gardens the best? There's something about flowers that make a yard look beautiful no matter what :)
We have something eating our zucchini plants-- grrrr!!!! Trying out snap peas as a new addition to our garden and I'm loving it :) xox Love you!
Very nice. The zinnias really are very pretty. I'm excited to hear about how the canning goes.
Looks great!!! We branched out and planted some squash and a jalapeno pepper this year (I'm planning on making some mean salsa with our fresh grown tomatoes and cilantro). Isn't gardening great?
Rachael, it all looks great. I love gardening too. It's so fun to watch things grow. I do hope you like tomatoes - that's a lot of plants.
Rachael this is Laura (Hopkin) Newton. I was reading your bolg and started to laugh because 13 tomato plants.... really wow you are amazing. Last year we planted 5 and we got two to three bag a week until the frost came. I gave most of them away to all the day care kids. (I have the kids help me in the garden and then they take stuff home...Lots of fun) Any way the really funny part of what I am saying is that Mike and I went to the USU green house and they were having an amazing deal and we ended up with 15 tomato plants, 7 peper, and a few spices and 9 different flowers. What is even better is that Mike is on his way back to the green house right now to get more. I think I might have to learn how to can this year if we are still in this house come fall. I love gardening. Good luck with yours.
